Why I made this template

[edit]

I first encountered 24.15.217.4 (talk · contribs) (and their propensity for adding filmographies) a few months ago during a mini-revert war on Stepin Fetchit (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) … I'm going to caution them again and do some cleanups for a while. —68.239.79.82 (talk · contribs) 09:45, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Examples

[edit]

Examples of {{Allmovie}}, {{Imdb}}, {{Ibdb}}, {{TV Guide}}, and {{Tv.com}} templates:

Celebrities

[edit]

Using Vanessa L. Williams (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

* {{Amg name |76579 |Vanessa L. Williams}}
* {{Imdb name |id=0001853 |name=Vanessa L. Williams}}
* {{Ibdb name |id=82232 |name=Vanessa L. Williams}}
* {{TV Guide person |vanessa-l-williams/178036 |Vanessa L. Williams}}
* {{Tv.com person |id=103828 |name=Vanessa L. Williams}}

Movies/shows

[edit]

* {{Amg movie |158537 |Soul Food}}
* {{Imdb title |id=0120169 |title=Soul Food}}
* {{Ibdb title |id=4486 |title=Into the Woods}}
* {{TV Guide show |281127 |Ugly Betty}}
* {{Tv.com show |id=58486 |title=Ugly Betty}}

Omitting name/title will default to the current article's name.

New boilerplate

[edit]

I cloned {{Amg name}} to make {{Allmovie name}}, and created a documentation file cloned from {{TV Guide person}}, so I needed a new boilerplate, and I chose a single-name celebrity to make editing the name easier. :-)

{{Allmovie name}} was immediately deprecated. :-) — 22:49, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Using Charo (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views):

* {{Amg name |12459 |Charo}}

* {{Imdb name |id=0004819 |name=Charo}}
* {{TV Guide person |charo/189663 |Charo}}
* {{Tv.com person |id=6756 |name=Charo}}

makes:

138.88.91.205 (talk) 18:39, 4 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2011_June_6#Template:Tv.com_person for how the template got deprecated, — 72.75.57.223 (talk) 18:07, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Template:imdb episode

[edit]
{{imdb episode|0706374|The Angriest Angel}}

Hmmm...

[edit]

I have a bit of a problem with restricting it to just films with existing articles. When I create a new film section (e.g. Sig Ruman), I start with those, but also comb through IMDb and add films that have been seen by a significant no. of people and/or are highly rated. Then, when time allows, I create stubs. In the meantime, at least the reader is made aware of noteworthy entries and dates. Clarityfiend (talk) 21:03, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it's every editor's individual choice, of course ... I happen to be a deletionist, so I tend to favor the restrictive view, and feel that the supplied links to IMDb, TCM, and other data bases are sufficient. :-) ... Happy Editing! — 72.75.110.142 (talk) 10:51, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Allmusicguide

[edit]

I just discovered {{Allmusicguide}} ...

{{allmusicguide | id=11:dzfexqlsld0e~T0 | label= Chaundon }}

generates:

Chaundon at AllMusic

Testing {{TV Guide person}}

[edit]

Well, after stumbling across {{TV Guide}}, I decided to try my hand, and hacked it into {{TV Guide person}} ...

was the first one I tagged, and then I moved {{TV Guide}} to {{TV Guide show}}, and updated the documentation for both of them with examples. :-)

* {{TV Guide person |pauley-perrette/190740 |Pauley Perrette}}
* {{TV Guide person |pauley-perrette/190740}}
* {{TV Guide show |100320 |NCIS}}

Template:Selected filmography has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for Deletion page. Thank you. Garion96 (talk) 23:32, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I chose not to participate in the TfD … I archived a copy at User talk:The Bipolar Anon-IP Gnome/Selected filmography#Examples … I probably will never use it again, but on articles where I would have used it, I'll just ping Garion96 to complete/organize/link the list under Filmography :-)
I guess that I assumed that lack of opposition implied consensus (as per WP:BOLD), but I also accept that consensus can change over time … it lived in Template space and I used it for a little over a year before anyone objected … the TfD occurred as I was transitioning from the High to Low phase of my cycle, so I just userfied it and went into hibernation mode … BTW, I updated the link for the TfD discussion to the archived copy as well … I'm glad to see that Some Other Editor agreed with me at the TfD. :-) … Happy Editing! — 138.88.91.205 (talk · contribs) 12:11, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2009-01-31/Orphans. Removing red links is hurting wikipedia. Plus I would gain consensus regarding trimmin filmographies. Right now there isn't. Garion96 (talk) 11:18, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Allmovie
